Doha, December 27 (QNA) - In its Monday editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted the major achievements of the State of Qatar in all political, diplomatic, sports and economic fields, adding that Qatar is concluding this year that was full of outstanding events at the local, regional and international levels.

The newspaper stated that last October, Qatar had a historic event that strengthened the Shura and popular participation in decision-making, as the country witness the beginning of the first elected Shura Council, which is a move welcomed by the world and enjoyed remarkable local participation. The elections were the culmination of many successes at the local level, as the national economy continued its growth, the newspaper pointed out.

The newspaper added that the State of Qatar continued its leadership in the production and exportation of liquefied gas, in addition to the continued successes in strengthening its policy of self-sufficiency in many food commodities and accomplishing many achievements in various sectors, including health, which recorded impressive successes in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as environmental initiatives and the completion of most major national projects.

It pointed out that 2021 was also a year that strengthened Doha's position as the capital to host major sporting events, the latest of which was the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, which constituted a successful rehearsal for Qatar's preparations to host an exceptional and impressive version of the World Cup.

Al-Sharq concluded that the events of this year at the political and diplomatic level came to confirm the prestigious position that the State of Qatar reached at the international level, adding that the vital role played by Doha with regard to the Afghan issue constituted a milestone in the course of Qatari diplomacy.
