Peninsula: Qatar a Trusted Source for Clean Energy Sources

Doha, October 27 (QNA) - The Peninsula highlighted in its editorial Tuesday that a subsidiary of Qatar Petroleum and the "National Grid Grain LNG" in the United Kingdom signed a long-term agreement for the storage capacity of liquefied natural gas and its return to its gaseous state, which came in light of Qatar's global position as a reliable source of clean energy supplies around the world and the culmination of Qatar's leadership in the field of liquefied gas industry.

The newspaper said that the agreement will enable the Qatar Petroleum affiliate to utilize the Isle of Grain LNG receiving terminal in Kent from mid-2025, by subscribing to the equivalent of up to 7.2 million tonnes per annum of the terminals future throughput capacity.

HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum Saad Sherida Al Kaabi recently highlighted Qatars resilient LNG industry in a keynote speech delivered remotely at the start of the 9th Japan LNG Producer-Consumer Conference. "During these challenging times, Qatari LNG continued to flow to all markets",HE highlighted.

Al Kaabi stressed the commitment of the State of Qatar towards its customers and partners, saying that "despite the pandemic, we continue to strengthen and expand our cooperation with all our existing long-term partners as well as with new partners across the world, providing security and diversity of LNG supplies."

The newspaper revealed that Qatar is currently the main source of liquefied natural gas in the world. In 2017, Qatar announced its intention to increase LNG production capacity to 100 million tonnes per year. Such target was then increased in 2018 to 110 million tonnes per annum, and again, when Qatar obtained more data on the capability of the giant North Field, the target was increased in 2019 to 126 million tonnes per year by 2027.

In conclusion, the newspaper affirmed that Qatar Petroleum is committed to contribute to a better future by fulfilling todays economic needs, while safeguarding the environment and resources for generations to come. (QNA)
