Minister of Transportation and Communications: Qatar Attaches Great Importance to the Issue of Sustainable Development

Doha, March 16 (QNA) - The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, participated in the virtual exhibition of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

HE Minister of Transportation and Communications Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, said in a speech at the opening of the exhibition that the State of Qatar, within the integrated vision of its policy at the national, regional and international levels, attaches great importance to the issue of sustainable development in its various aspects such as social, economic and environmental development in line with the global agenda for sustainable development for the year 2030, and realizes that achieving sustainable development is an important challenge for countries at the national level as it is a global challenge that the international community should place on the agenda of its priorities and work to advance it.

His Excellency stressed that the State of Qatar is participating actively with other countries in this regard.

His Excellency explained that the State of Qatar is participating in the World Summit on the Information Society as a golden partner for this year, to express its solidarity with the global goals aimed at benefiting from the power of information and communication technology in accelerating the pace of social and economic development.

His Excellency emphasized that the Ministry of Transportation and Communications is working to follow up the implementation of the summit's work paths to achieve the internationally agreed sustainable development goals through information and communication technology, which are in line with national endeavors and efforts aimed at establishing a knowledge-based economy.

During her participation to the event, the Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Information Technology Affairs at the Ministry of Transport and Communications Mashael Ali Al Hammadi, indicated that the State of Qatar is aware of the main role that the information and communication technology sector plays in accelerating the pace of social and economic development and creating a knowledge-based economy.

She explained that accordingly, the Qatar Digital Government 2026 strategy will be an ambitious strategy that is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030, and will enhance its values through information and communication technology such as increasing accessibility, focusing on quality education, healthcare and equity, while striving to improve the environmental impact of a more sustainable model, and empowering all social groups.

The State of Qatar participates as a golden partner for the next World Summit on the Information Society, scheduled for next May, and looks forward during the conference to reviewing its most important achievements regarding the implementation of the summit's work streams, including a number of projects implemented under the umbrella of Qatar Digital Government strategy, and presenting its experience of the Qatar Smart Program (TASMU), as well as a number of initiatives on digital inclusion for various groups of society, including people with disabilities, the elderly and expatriate workers.
