Qatar Maintains Lead in MENA in Global Peace Index

Doha, June 22 (QNA) - The State of Qatar ranked the first in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and 29th globally in the Global Peace Index (GPI) for the year 2021.

Issued by the Institute of Economics and Peace in Australia, the 2021 report covered 163 countries globally. The report measures the state of peace across three domains: the level of Societal Safety and Security, the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict, and the degree of Militarization.

For the thirteenth year in a row, the State of Qatar maintained its first rank in the MENA region, and occupied advanced positions at the global level during the same period, by achieving high ratings that surpassed many developed countries in low crime rates, and achieved advance ranks at the global level in the GPI as it scored high ranked in different quantitative and qualitative indicators of the peacefulness.

The countries are ranked in the Index on a scale of 1-5 degrees so that the most stable countries are those who achieve 1, while the least stable receive 5. This year Qatar scored 1.605 points with high ranks in many indicators such as level of criminality, terrorist activities, number of homicides and level of organized internal conflict.

The Global Peace Index is an attempt to measure the relative peacefulness of countries and regions. It is produced by the Institute for Economic and Peace in consultation with an international team of experts from institutes and research centers.

The State of Qatar continues to achieve advanced positions in peace and security indicators at the regional and global levels. The State ranked 25th globally in the Global Competitiveness Index 2017-2018, issued by the World Economic Forum. This ranking confirms economic diversification, infrastructure development, openness and effectiveness of the labor market, and the tangible progress in terms of innovation and technology. All these indicators reflect the level of security and safety that the country enjoys.

In this context, the Ministry of Interior underlined that the state of security and safety in the State of Qatar, which is reflected in international reports, was the fruit of tireless efforts exerted by various departments to ensure achieving the best rates of security performance, combating crime and protecting lives and property, in line with its vision and strategy.

The Ministry said that Qatar's superiority affirms its leadership according to many indicators concerned with measuring the levels of security and public and personal safety, such as the Global Peace Index, the Nambio Encyclopedia Index, the Reliance on Police Services Index, and the Global Terrorism Index, which ranked Qatar in the first ranks in the Middle East and North Africa in terms of security and safety and freedom from terrorism.

These global indicators measures among others the state of security and peace including the rates of major crimes, extent of safety measures and community partnership, quality of services provided to the public and the reach of security awareness in the community.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed that its vision to achieve the highest levels of security and stability in the society stems from its comprehensive strategy that seeks to build an integrated security system supported by the development it is witnessing in its various facilities, and reflects the extent to which the Ministrys employees understand their duties, tasks and powers, guaranteed to them by the constitution and the law, and their moral and ethical behavior.

The Ministry of Interior has witnessed an unprecedented development, both on the security and the service sides, which included a significant expansion in all its security and service departments, in terms of modern buildings and modern technologies, in order to develop and consolidate the security work in general.

The Ministry of Interior noted that the development in the service and security aspects come within the framework of the development and modernization the State has been witnessing in various fields, as well as its strategy in its community communication and its technological leadership, the adoption of human rights principles and the promotion of these rights, and ensuring the dignity of individuals and the protection of public and private freedoms in accordance with the constitution and the provisions of the law.
