Al-Watan Affirms Qatari Economy Ability to Face Challenges

Doha, January 12 (QNA) - Al-Watan newspaper affirmed in its Wednesday editorial that the Qatari economy is largely capable of facing future challenges, as confirmed by HE President of Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) Dr. Saleh bin Mohammad Al Nabit's presentation of Qatar's Economic Outlook Report 2021-2023. He referred to a number of developments that the national economy has witnessed within the framework of the global economy during the past decade, which had the greatest impact in changing the course of the production and commercial structure of the Qatari economy.

The PSA report, Issue No. 13, issued on Tuesday reviews the developments of the national economy for the past few years 2017-2021, including a deep analysis of the repercussions of preventive and precautionary measures to contain COVID-19 on the performance of economic activities during the years 2020 and 2021 and their repercussions on economic and environmental indicators, the newspaper pointed out.

The paper also noted the report's review of the international consensus expectations for the Qatari economy, which it expects to grow by more than 2 percent in 2021 and by more than 3.5 percent in 2022.

In light of the current data, it is estimated that the national economy will recover in 2021 by a rate ranging between 1.5 percent and 2.3 percent. Then it is expected that it will recover further in 2022, at a rate of between 1.6 percent and 2.9 percent, most of which will come from the recovery of non-oil activities during the same period, with a growth rate ranging between 2.8 percent and 4.7 percent, the paper said.

Al-Watan explained that the effects that occurred on the global economy during the COVID-19 crisis cast a shadow on the Qatari economy but the measures taken by the State of Qatar and the economic stimulus packages for the affected economic sectors contributed to the resilience of the Qatari economy in the face of the pandemic.

Al-Watan concluded its editorial by saying that the proactive thinking and speed of adaptation to changes were a basic pillar of the country's plans and programs. Flexibility was also adopted to be a major approach in dealing with various challenges, especially during the current situation witnessed by all countries of the world following the outbreak of the pandemic, reaffirming what is reported in Qatar's Economic Outlook Report 2021-2023 on the strength of the Qatari economy, its ability to meet the challenges of the future and to walk the right path.
