The Peninsula Commends Organizing Doha International Book Fair Despite Pandemic

Doha, January 15 (QNA) - Qatari English-language newspaper The Peninsula praised in its Saturday editorial the 31st edition of Doha International Book Fair, despite the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

The newspaper stressed that this edition, which is held under the slogan "Knowledge is Light", provides a window of knowledge for researchers, innovators, scientists and writers to develop societies and improve life, highlighting the participation of a number of countries and the presence of books in different languages.

It features 845 pavilions, 437 publishing houses, including 319 Arab and 45 foreign publishing houses, and 73 publishing houses for children's books, the paper stated.

Several cultural activities and workshops are also lined-up for the Fair, which will run until January 22. Nine embassies, including the US, Palestine, Russia, Italy, France, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Syria, and South Korea, are participating in this years event, the paper said, adding that the GCC pavilion is show-casing publications, books, guidebooks, and laws issued by the GCC Secretariat.

The peninsula also said that the Doha International Book Fair showcases the human journey of exploration and learning. It introduces the latest and most recent publications that reflect human's creative and reflective knowledge across all fields. It represents a continuation of the efforts of the State of Qatar in the dissemination of culture and knowledge. (QNA)
