Al-Raya Emphasizes Strength of Qatar's Economy Despite Global Challenges

Doha, February 07 (QNA) - In its Monday editorial, Al-Raya daily newspaper affirmed that the State of Qatar is continuing to achieve promising growth figures after Covid-19 pandemic that affected the whole world, considering that the recovery of the Qatari economy came faster than expected as a result of precautionary and professional measures taken by the government in order to avoid the economy being affected by the global closures.

The paper noted the latest PMI figure by Qatar Financial Centre (QFC), which revealed a strong growth in the non-energy private sector at the start of 2022, as the PMI eased further from November's record high of 63.1 to 57.6 in January, from 61.4 in December, pointing out that the indicators are still high compared to any previous period since the study began more than four years ago in April 2017 until the end of the fourth quarter of 2021.

The measures taken by the government to revive the private sector and stimulus packages during the epidemic had a major role in immunizing the Qatari economy and basically the growth of the private sector, the paper said.

Al-Raya said that the recent data announced by the QFC, indicated the recovery of the non-energy private sector economy in Qatar and the acceleration of the official annual economic growth rate in the 4th quarter of 2021.

Companies' expectations regarding commercial activity for 2022 remained positive, which is attributed to the commercial opportunities due to the organization of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the paper said, indicating that the booming growth of current and future businesses augurs well for a positive future for the non-oil economy in Qatar.

Exports have now exceeded their pre-pandemic levels in an increasing number of foreign markets, the economy has shown great resilience during the pandemic, and economic recovery rates have continued to make accelerated progress due to a combination of factors and the accelerated boom in assets, Al-Raya added.

The newspaper also indicated that Qatar is proceeding to accelerate the implementation of its economic diversification strategy by making Qatar an important financial center in the Middle East and the world. The strategy of diversifying the economy and shifting to a knowledge economy also records impressive successes confirmed by the language of numbers that reflect the strength and durability of our economy despite global challenges, the paper noted.

Qatar has worked on more than one level to improve the economy, as well as boosting the position of local production in various sectors, which has been positively reflected on the domestic output, the paper underlined.

Al-Raya concluded its editorial by saying that Qatar has expanded in supporting new sectors of the economy, prioritized interim and long-term goals in order to achieve them, and involved the private sector in many vital projects that led to an increase in the financial returns of private sector companies and enabled them to overcome the crisis.
