Doha, March 21 (QNA) - The Executive Council of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ARABOSAI) has selected Qatar's State Audit Bureau by acclamation to represent the Arab organization in the Executive Council of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) for the period 2022-2028.

The selection came at the conclusion of the 63rd meeting of the ARABOSAI Executive Council, which was hosted by the State Audit Bureau over two days, with the participation of the heads of the supreme audit institutions in the member states of the Executive Council of the Organization.

HE President of the Audit Bureau and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Arab Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Emadi stressed that the meetings of the Council were an opportunity to evaluate what the organization had accomplished since its previous meeting, and to set plans and programs to develop its work and improve its performance in the service of member states.

HE added, at the conclusion of the work of the ARABOSAI Executive Council meeting today, that the successes achieved by the organization during the past short period, despite the challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, represented an incentive to continue the march to make its work more professional and has more ability to respond to the aspirations of member states, which requires accelerating the implementation of plans and programs as well as adopting the best international practices in the field of the organization's work, and ensuring its effective contribution to enhancing transparency, integrity, and accountability.

He explained that these measures represented the basic pillars for achieving sustainable development goals in the Arab world, praising the role of the General Secretariat of the Organization in developing the capabilities and means of work of the Organization, and to enhance cooperation and exchange of experiences between the various Arab bodies.

For their part, the members of the Executive Council appreciated the pioneering role shouldered by the State Audit Bureau in the State of Qatar in its capacity as the head of the ARABOSAI, in developing the organization's work, improving its performance, and working to make Arab oversight bodies more effective, professional and contributing to development efforts. They praised the contribution of the State Audit Bureau during His presidency of the organization to expand the scope of professional partnerships with relevant parties, working to improve performance, transfer knowledge, and adopting Arab regulatory bodies for best practices in the field of development and capacity building.

During its meeting, the Executive Council of ARABOSAI approved the reports of the committees. Also, it approved the final account for 2021, the estimated budget for 2022, and the agenda for the next meeting of the General Assembly of the organization in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in addition to the adoption of methodology for preparing the detailed plan 2022-2023 with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA).
