Doha, Sept. 03 (QNA) - The State of Qatar and a number of Arab and international cities celebrated this evening with the unveiling of the emblem of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, hosted by Qatar for the first time in the Middle East.

The celebration came simultaneously on Tuesday evening (20:22 pm Doha time) with the launch of the emblem through an innovative digital campaign on social networks, accompanied by the display of the emblem through giant screens on the facades of buildings and landmarks in Qatar and 24 other countries.

The official unveiling took place in Qatar's capital, Doha, at 20:22 local time, with thousands of spectators witnessing the synchronized projection of the emblem onto a number of the country's most iconic buildings, including Burj Doha, Katara Cultural Village Amphitheatre, Ministry of Interior, Souq Waqif and Msheireb and Al Zubarah Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

A number of Arab countries such as Kuwait, Oman, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Iraq, Palestine, Libya and Sudan participated in the unveiling event, where it was displayed on facades of buildings and landmarks of these countries as the Kuwait Towers in Kuwait City, the Raouche Rock in Lebanon, the Fort of Hammamet in Tunisia and others.

A number of major cities around the world are also celebrating the milestone, with images of the emblem seen on renowned locations and outdoor billboards in prominent public spaces. Some of the world's best-known footballers and FIFA World Cup legends are also taking to social media to support the launch and share the emblem with their millions of fans online.

Just as the closing date of the 2022 World Cup on December 18, Qatar was celebrating its national day, this evening was chosen as the date for the unveiling of the emblem of, coinciding with Qatar Independence Day, on September 3, 1971, after the termination of the protection treaty between Qatar and Britain.

The launching of the emblem marks an important milestone in the preparations for the tournament, during which Qatar has successfully completed 75% of the preparations and the completion of works in a number of stadiums, and progressed significantly in other stadiums.

Qatar has officially opened two host stadiums, the Khalifa International Stadium in 2017 and the Al Janoub Stadium (formerly Al Wakra) in the middle of this year. The coming months will see the opening of more than the World Cup stadium, especially the two Al Bayt Stadium and Al Rayyan Stadiums , which may open during the Club World Cup next December. (QNA)
