Al-Sharq, Al-Raya Praise Partnership between Qatar and UN

Doha, September 22 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers Al-Sharq and Al-Raya praised in their Sunday editorials the participation of the State of Qatar in the meetings of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly and the partnership between Qatar and the UN, which has achieved a qualitative leap in recent years.

The newspapers stressed the significance of the participation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the meetings of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in light of the great positive role played by the State of Qatar, noting the importance of HH the Amir's speech before the leaders and representatives of 193 Member States on Tuesday which will highlight Qatar's positions and visions towards the regional and international developments.

For its part, Al-Sharq said that the delegation of the State of Qatar to the 74th session of the UN General Assembly will participate in the ongoing high-level discussions at the headquarters of the UN in New York, most importantly the speech of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Tuesday.

Al-Sharq said that the partnership between Qatar and the UN achieved a qualitative leap through the conclusion of many agreements that regulate the contribution of Qatar to the march of the international organization and its various agencies and bodies, through its government agencies and charitable institutions.

With preparations to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the UN in 2020, the partnerships between Qatar and the organization have reached nine partnerships covering all areas of relief and concerns of the organization, Al-Sharq pointed out.

Al-Sharq concluded by stressing the keenness of the Qatari delegation on expressing the State's views and initiatives on the urgent issues addressed by the ongoing meetings until September 30, especially the crises in the Middle East with a main focus on the Palestinian issue, in addition to the international peace and security, development assistance, humanitarian response to disasters, as well as the challenges of poverty, terrorism, human rights, the promotion of justice and nuclear disarmament.

In turn, Al-Raya newspaper underlined the importance of the participation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the meetings of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly given the great positive role of the State of Qatar, and the significance of HH the Amir's speech before leaders and representatives of the UN Member States which will present Qatar's positions and visions towards the developments of regional and international issues.

The speech of HH the Amir stems from the Qatari vision which is characterized by integrity in addressing the causes of extremism and terrorism and rejecting double standards in dealing with this global scourge or linking between terrorism and Islam, the paper said, adding that Qatar's efforts are based on humanitarian principles, standards and values, while some countries use terrorism charges to serve political agendas.

The speech of HH the Amir also comes in light of the remarkable developments in the strategic partnership between Qatar and the United Nations, the most important of which was Qatar's announcement, during the Doha Forum last December, of $500 million support for the UN agencies to strengthen its capabilities to face current humanitarian challenges in the world, especially the crises of refugees, migrants and displaced people, the paper explained.

Through his speeches at the UN, HH the Amir has been keen on providing a clear, insightful and personalized vision to solve several crises in the region, including the Palestinian issue, in addition to presenting the Qatari vision on the various issues raging in the Arab and Middle East region, especially the Gulf crisis and the current conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Libya and others, Al-Raya added.

The Qatari vision is always based on the policy of dialogue and negotiation to resolve disputes peacefully, a vision that has proved effectiveness after years of fighting in Yemen, Al-Raya concluded. (QNA)
