Newspapers Highlight Qatar-Japan Partnership

Doha, October 23 (QNA) - Qatari dailies highlighted in their editorials Wednesday HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's participation in the enthronement ceremony of HM Emperor Naruhito of Japan which took place at the Imperial Place in the capital Tokyo yesterday.

The newspapers noted the depth of the Qatari-Japanese relations and their development from one year to another, based on the foundations of strong friendship, cooperation, mutual respect and trust between the two countries, stressing that that these relations have been characterized over the years by close convergence and fruitful cooperation, and economic exchanges have been the backbone of these relations, which have been established for more than four decades.

In its editorial, Al-Sharq stressed that HH the Amir expressed his pleasure with the participation of the friendly Japanese people in celebrating the beginning of the new imperial era, pointing out that this reflects HH's respect and appreciation of friends in Japan, and the strong ties of friendship between His Highness and HM Emperor Naruhito who visited the State of Qatar in 1994, when he was crown prince.

The paper said that thanks to the high patronage and directives of His Highness, Qatar's relations with Japan have achieved a qualitative leap in the past few years, and moved from the stage of cooperation to comprehensive strategic partnership based on consolidated foundations, through many bilateral agreements in the fields of defense, education, health, sports, tourism, technological sciences, trade, investment and other fields.

The paper also stressed that trade, economic and investment interests between the State of Qatar and Japan constitute the backbone of the strong relations between the two countries, where Japan leads Qatar's energy partners.

HH's visit to Japan last January, during which a number of bilateral agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed in important areas, and a bilateral mechanism for strategic dialogue was launched at the level of foreign ministers of the two countries, reveals the depth of the qualitative leap in relations between the two countries during the past two years, the paper said.

In conclusion, Al-Sharq underlined that HH the Amir's participation in Japan's historic celebration yesterday indicates the strong friendship between the two countries.

The newspaper concluded by noting the affirmation of the Japanese Embassy in Qatar, in which it reiterated Tokyo's appreciation of Doha's diplomatic efforts that contribute to stability in the region, as well as its proactive diplomacy that never fails to achieve a better impact, not only on the Qatari side, but also on other countries.

Qatari daily Al-Raya noted that the participation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the enthronement ceremony of HM the new Emperor of Japan is of great importance in terms of timing, content, the two countries' ties and the Japanese nation's celebration of the beginning of a new emperor era.

Al-Raya affirmed that HH the Amir's visit supports the mutual trust and respect between the leadership of both countries, and strengthens the good friendship between HH the Amir and HM Emperor Naruhito who visited the State of Qatar in 1994 when he was a Crown Prince.

It pointed out that the Qatari-Japanese relations achieved a quantum leap during the past few years thanks to the great guidance and vision of the two countries' leaderships, where relations have moved from the stage of cooperation to comprehensive strategic partnership, adding that Qatar and Japan are connected in many bilateral agreements in the fields of defense, education, health, sports, tourism, science, technology, trade, investment and other fields.

The paper underlined that the two countries still have genuine yearning for further bilateral cooperation in other vital areas, as the economic, trade and investment interests between Qatar and Japan are as solid as the strong relations between the two countries.

Al-Raya concluded by saying that Japan has been a major market for the Qatari oil and gas since 1990s and that Japanese companies were the first customers in the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG), and Japan is still one of the largest most significant partners in this field.

In turn, Al-Arab newspaper confirmed that the participation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the enthronement ceremony of HM Emperor Naruhito of Japan on Tuesday gains great importance in the ties between the two countries, as the Japanese people shared their celebrations of the beginning of their new imperial era.

The newspaper said that the consensus among observers regarding HH the Amir's visit to Japan to attend this important occasion also indicates the support of relations of mutual trust and respect between the leadership of the two countries, and reinforces the strong friendship between HH the Amir and HM Emperor Naruhito, who visited Doha in 1994 when he was crown prince.

Al-Arab added that the transition from cooperation to comprehensive strategic partnership reflected in the signing of many bilateral agreements in the fields of defense, education, health, sports, tourism, science, technology, trade, investment and other areas, pointing out that Japan is a major market for Qatari oil and gas since 1990s.

Japan has taken a neutral stance regarding the Gulf Crisis, and expressed concern about the development of the situation in the region, as well as hope that the issue will be resolved through dialogue, while supporting the Kuwaiti mediation efforts, the newspaper said. The State of Qatar appreciated and praised Japan's stance as it is consistent with the Qatari stance which is calling for dialogue with the blockade countries, Al-Arab concluded. (QNA)
