Doha, December 06 (QNA) - Al Watan and Al Sharq daily newspapers said in their Friday editorial that 'corruption' is a grave threat to the peoples' future, welfare, and decent life, adding that concerted international efforts would eliminate this scourge through pioneering initiatives such as the Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award.
Al Watan newspaper said that Qatar's global role in combatting corruption is manifested in several activities and institutions established by Doha for this end, foremost of which is the international award bearing the name of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, which His Highness will present to the winners of its fourth edition at the ceremony, that will be held on Monday in the Rwandan capital Kigali, in cooperation with the United Nations Organization, and in the presence of HE President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda.
The newspaper pointed that HH the Amir and HE President Kagame will honor the winners of four categories, namely Academic Research and Education; Youth Creativity and Engagement ; Innovation; and Lifetime/Outstanding Achievement.
It added that Qatar's leadership in fighting corruption, and its awareness of the need to join efforts to combat and eliminate it, is confirmed by the prestigious international award, which bears the name of His Highness, as well as the anti-corruption and rule of law centers, which Qatar is establishing in several countries in the world.
Al Watan concluded its editorial saying that integrity and transparency are among the most important basis on which the renaissance of nations is built. Qatar has realized and believed in this concept, and is working hard to spread it in all countries of the world.
Al Sharq daily said that 'corruption' is a grave threat to the peoples' future, welfare, and decent life, adding that concerted international efforts would eliminate this scourge through pioneering initiatives such as the Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award, which enjoys international recognition and appreciation.
It pointed that the Qatar-originated, world-oriented award, which is presented in cooperation with the United Nations, highlights global best practices in fighting corruption, and promotes awareness and solidarity to fight it.
It also said that the award's periodicity reflects Qatar's commitment, firm approach and determination to enhancing international efforts to tackle the threats of corruption on the structure of societies; and to moving forward in partnership with the United Nations to support its efforts for combating this "serious scourge". The award is an encouragement for similar initiatives towards establishing corruption-free societies.
The newspaper noted that Rwanda's hosting of the fourth edition of the award reflects an appreciation by Qatar and the United Nations for the role of this African country in fighting corruption, building a state of law, justice, success and achieving reconciliation.
Al Sharq concluded saying that the award represents Qatar's support for the efforts of the United Nations, especially in the area of combating crime and corruption. (QNA)
