Al-Raya: Qatar is Ready to Host 2022 World Cup, Enhance its Role in International Sports Scene

Doha, August 30 (QNA) - Al-Raya newspaper praised in its Sunday editorial the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Housing and Governmental Buildings Department of the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs (MADLSA) and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) to lease residential properties that would be used to provide accommodation for visitors during the FIFA World Cup 2022, set to kick off on Nov. 21, 2022.

The newspaper indicated that the signing of the MoU confirms the State of Qatar's keenness to involve all institutions in order to organize an exceptional FIFA World Cup worthy of Qatar's name and to strengthen its position in the international sports scene.

Al-Raya underlined that the MoU comes as a confirmation of SC's keenness to involve the Qatari community in its various sectors to contribute to the success of the upcoming FIFA World Cup event, especially given that stadiums and hotels are ready. Therefore, the MoU ensures comfort for Qatar's guests by diversifying the accommodation options available in Qatar as part of the government housing program, the paper added.

More than 150 complete, undivided properties have been approved in the first batch, providing approximately 15,000 rooms during the tournament, which Al-Raya noted, is an indicator to Qatar's legacy and capability.

Al-Raya pointed out that the MoU comes as a continuation of the successes achieved by Qatar since winning the bid to host the FIFA World Cup through the implementation of projects for the international tournament, including stadiums and hotels, as well as Qatar's keenness to include everyone to participate for the preparations for the world's largest sporting event because the State realizes the importance of the private and public sectors' contribution to the success of the event.

The newspaper underlined that the announcement of the first phase of the project is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, as it is expected that this program, upon completion of its phases, will provide for the real estate needs of government housing for a long period.

Concluding, Al-Raya said that the SC's success in securing thousands of rooms as a result of the cooperation with MADLSA confirms Qatar's readiness to host an unprecedented FIFA World Cup, the first in the Middle East, especially because the State, through the preparations that has been made in its sports facilities, metro, hotels and private rooms, confirms Qatar's ability to accept the challenge and honor all.
