Al-Raya, Al-Watan: Qatar Makes Great Strides to Develop Information, Communication Technology

Doha, October 11 (QNA) - Al-Raya and Al-Watan newspapers affirmed on Sunday that the State of Qatar will continue to work with the international community to confront the digital piracy due to its seriousness and dire effects, calling for strengthening cybersecurity and providing a safe electronic environment.

The newspapers stressed that Qatar has made great strides in building and developing the technology sector, and has also supported research, innovation and pioneering spirit that contributed to enabling the State of Qatar to compete in the field of technology, achieve cybersecurity, and provide valuable solutions to technological challenges, something that deserves a lot of appreciation and praise.

For its part, Al-Raya newspaper said in its editorial that digital piracy has become an extremely serious international issue due to its dire effects that may lead to fabricated crises and cybercrime, referring to Qatar's affirmation before the United Nations yesterday that it will continue to work with the international community to confront the digital piracy due to its seriousness and dire effects, and called for strengthening cybersecurity and providing a safe electronic environment.

Qatar, as everyone knows, was exposed in 2017 to a cyber piracy crime that was the starting point for imposing an unjust blockade and unlawful measures against its people and those residing on its land in a manner that represents a flagrant violation of human rights and international law and an infringement of the rights of the people of Qatar that are guaranteed by international laws, Al-Raya added.

Al-Raya expressed regret that some countries and entities have misused scientific advances in the field of information technology and artificial intelligence, and instead of using them to achieve development and prosperity, they misuse them to achieve special goals and political gains that contribute to undermining security and stability.

Qatar attaches great importance to promoting the positive side of using innovative technology in a way that achieves a human-centered and inclusive society, the newspaper added.

In this regard, the newspaper drew attention to Qatars success since the beginning of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in providing remote education to students without any interruption for all educational levels, at a time when the pandemic imposed the inevitability of distance education.

Qatar, the paper said, uses technology to achieve development and face emergency conditions such as the circumstances of Covid-19 pandemic, while others exploit this technology in political gains and moral crimes.

Al-Raya indicated that providing a secure and robust cyber environment has always been of the utmost importance to Qatar, as it has made great strides in building and developing the information and communication technology sector and digital transformation, and supports and encourages innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, as the Second National Development Strategy (2018-2022) clearly identified the need to focus on knowledge and innovation as one of the most important factors in achieving economic diversification.

Al-Raya concluded by saying that Qatar seeks a strong and diversified knowledge-based economy by building an active and secure sector by promoting digital government and cybersecurity initiatives, as there are many initiatives launched by Qatar on cybersecurity that aim to protect the systems and infrastructure of information and communication technology in the State of Qatar, stressing that technology contributes to human advancement and development.

For its part, Al-Watan newspaper affirmed that the State of Qatar has made great strides in building and developing the information and communication technology sector and the digital transformation, providing valuable solutions to technological challenges, as well as supporting the building of the innovative capabilities for a prosperous society that seeks to achieve security and prosperity.

The Qatari daily stressed that the State of Qatar continues to work with the international community to confront the digital piracy due to its seriousness and dire effects, and called for strengthening cybersecurity and providing a safe electronic environment.

The paper underlined the State of Qatar's statement made by the Second Secretary at the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Ahmed bin Saif Al Kuwari in New York before the Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) of the UN General Assembly at its 75th session, on Item 17 entitled "Information and Communications Technologies for Development."

Al-Watan stated that the State of Qatar affirms the importance of ensuring that scientific progress in the field of information technology and artificial intelligence is used to achieve development and prosperity, not to achieve special goals and political gains that contribute to undermining security and stability.

The newspaper indicated that the State of Qatar was exposed to a cyber piracy crime and blockade which constitute a stark example of the extent to which technology can go if it is misused, therefore, it is incumbent on society to establish clear controls, laws and legislation to stop such misuse and to impose measures that prevent such crimes and harness technology in order to serve all of humanity.

In conclusion, Al-Watan said that the State of Qatar has made great strides in building and developing the technology sector and has also supported research, innovation and the spirit of Leadership, which contributed to enabling Qatar to compete in the field of technology, achieving cybersecurity, and providing valuable solutions to technological challenges, the matter that deserves much recognition.
