QU Launches Virtual International Conference on EEEITC-21

Doha, February 22 (QNA) - Qatar University's College of Engineering (QU-CENG) and College of Education (QU-CEDU) kicked off the three-day Education, Engineering Education and Instruction Technology Conference (EEEITC 21). The theme of the conference is "Online Teaching and Learning: Towards Building a Better Future."

Participants in the conference will discuss the latest developments regarding technology applications in educational curricula and teaching methods, engineering education, assistive technology, technology and educational assessment and e-learning environments, in addition to holding several workshops.

The participants seek to exchange experiences from different countries with regard to education, technology and its relationship to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and its impact on developing curricula and teaching methods to be in line with global trends to keep pace with the new revolution that will affect education and labor market outcomes.

In his speech, HE QU President Dr. Hassan Al Derham said: "EEEITC-21 will cover plenary sessions and main lectures on several topics related to engineering and technical education. We expect that this conference will provide a forum for exchanging technical information, disseminating high-quality research results, and presenting new policies and scientific progress in these areas."

For his part, HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi said that the Ministry is keen to harmonize the teaching methods currently used in its schools with the trends of the Fourth Industrial Revolution by providing students with the basic competencies and skills of the 21st century, as well as providing professional development for teachers in the fields of using technology in the teaching and learning processes, in addition to focusing on active learning systems and uniqueness of teaching and highly differentiated teaching to enable students to acquire the competencies adopted by the State of Qatar.

He explained that several initiatives have been adopted to prepare students for the labor market, and urged them to join the scientific and technological path, given the need for the labor market for scientific and technological specializations, in addition to the opening of a number of specialized schools, such as Qatar Banking Studies and Business Administration Secondary School, Qatar Technical School, and Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys (STEM) for boys, and a similar school for girls is being prepared.

In the same context, HE referred to the project of professional and technical paths for students with disabilities in the secondary stage to prepare them for the labor market, and to provide training and professional development for teachers and school leaders on digital transformation according to the latest developments in this field.

QU-CENG Dean Dr Khalid Kamal Naji said that this conference supports building human capabilities, developing education and creating a competitive environment in the field of educational technology.

For his part, QU-CEDU Dean Prof. Ahmed Abdulrahman Emadi said: "The aim of this conference is to gather local and international experts, educators, faculty members and researchers to share their experiences and research results on all aspects of education and the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning online. It also provides a multidisciplinary platform for academics and researchers to present and discuss the latest trends and concerns as well as practical challenges in developing and implementing innovative educators in education."
