Doha, April 25 (QNA) - In their editorials on Monday, Qatari newspaper highlighted the reforms pursued by the State of Qatar to protect and promote human rights The newspapers stressed that the State of Qatar has become a pioneer in protecting workers' rights, as it has taken great practical steps in implementing labor reforms and modernizing laws that guarantee more welfare and respect for them in a manner that safeguards human dignity of workers, and is committed to continuing its strenuous efforts to promote and protect workers' rights and provide a safe and healthy work environment for them.
The papers referred to was confirmed by the EU annual report on the status of workers' rights in the State of Qatar, where it praised the labor reforms in the State, such as the abolition of the kafala (sponsorship) system, and the implementation of the non-discriminatory minimum wage decision for all employees, including domestic workers in a step that made it the first country in the region that allows all workers to change jobs before their contracts expire without the consent of the employer Al-Sharq daily said that the praise included in the EU Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World 2021, with regard to reforms of labor laws in Qatar reflects the State of Qatar's firm policy of protecting and promoting human rights, a policy that stems from its Arab and Islamic principles and values.
The paper e considered that the praise of the European Union report of the positive steps in the reforms of labor laws in the State of Qatar, came to be added to a series of commendations by the most important human rights groups and United Nations organizations.
The paper also noted the policy of cooperation and coordination between the State of Qatar and relevant international organizations around the world, the relationship of the National Human Rights Committee and its regular interaction with the institutions of the European Parliament, and Qatar's invitation to the European Union agency (EUSR) to visit the country.
The paper underlined that the wide-range reforms to strengthen labor laws and increase the protection of migrant workers, in order to achieve a system appropriate to the needs of both workers and employers, and to build a modern and dynamic labor market, are in the interest of employers, workers and the State alike.
In conclusion, Al-Sharq emphasized that the measures adopted by the State of Qatar with regard to reforms related to workers' rights, in line with its National Vision 2030, and in line with its international, regional and national commitments, are also part of its commitment to securing a decent life for migrant workers, as these reforms reinforce the basic principles of human rights in the State of Qatar, which provides job opportunities for nearly two million people.

The paper pointed out that Qatar is constantly updating laws that guarantee more welfare and respect for workers' rights in a manner that preserves the human dignity of workers, and is committed to continuing its efforts aimed at promoting and protecting workers' rights and providing a safe and healthy work environment.
The newspaper referred to the annual report of the European Union (EU) on the status of workers' rights in the State of Qatar, which praised the labor law reforms in Qatar, such as the abolition of the sponsorship system and the implementation of the non-discriminatory minimum wage decision for all employees, including domestic workers, noting that they are positive steps and that the year 2021 witnessed strong labor reforms in a step that made Qatar the first country in the Gulf region that allows all workers to change jobs before their contracts expire without the consent of the employer.

With the testimony of the international organizations of the United Nations, Qatar has become a role model in the region in safeguarding and protecting the rights of migrant workers, and is always keen to improve the human rights situation and effectively implements its National Development Vision 2030, the paper noted.
The State of Qatar is appreciative and grateful to all those who contributed to the construction of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 facilities and is keen to ensure the highest standards of security and safety for workers in infrastructure projects, construction of stadiums and projects related to this global event, the paper said.
Al-Raya concluded by saying that Qatar ensures the application and protection of basic human rights principles for all those working in these projects, and looks at hosting this major event as a valuable opportunity to promote the values of justice, solidarity and mutual respect and to emphasize the gains made in the field of protecting workers' rights.
In its Monday editorial, the English-language newspaper The Peninsula affirmed the State of Qatar's commitment to labor issues since it joined the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 1972.
The paper said that as part of the extensive labor reforms, Qatar started implementation of technical cooperation programme with ILO.
The Programme reflects the common commitment of Qatar and the ILO to cooperate on ensuring compliance with ratified international labor conventions, as well as achieving fundamental principles and rights at workplaces in Qatar in a gradual manner, the paper said.
The paper pointed out that Qatar introduced legislation that reformed the laws which granted abolition of the Kafala or sponsorship system, right of workers to change jobs, exit without permission of employers, and implementation of the minimum wage decision.
The ILO progress report for December 2021 indicated that over 242,870 workers changed jobs between October 2020 and October 2021 and applauded the labor laws reforms, the paper added.
The paper also noted that the Arab Group at the ILO has chosen recently Qatar as the group's coordinator at the organisation in Geneva, within the framework of the organising of the works of Arab countries in the ILO.
As well the latest annual report of the European Union on "Human Rights and Democracy in the World 2021" praised the labor laws reforms in Qatar describing it as positive steps, noting that the year 2021 witnessed strong labor reforms in Qatar, the paper said.
The EU report said that these new reforms made Qatar the first country in the region that allows all workers to change jobs before their contracts expire without the consent of the employer, in addition to being the second country in the Gulf region to set a minimum wage for migrant workers including domestic workers, The Peninsula concluded.
