HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani met today with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths, who is currently visiting the country. During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral cooperation between the State of Qatar and the United Nations, and the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

The State of Qatar announced that, in coordination with concerned countries and parties in Afghanistan, it has facilitated the evacuation of more than 40,000 people safely from the Afghan capital, Kabul, to Qatar, and that most of the evacuees are transiting in Qatar, where they are hosted temporarily for a few days before departing on flights to their onward destinations, adding that evacuation efforts will continue in the coming days in consultation with international partners.
