AFC Says Doha Will Host 2020 Asian Champions League

The Asia Football Confederation (AFC) announced Friday that Doha will host the finals of the 2020 AFC Champions League As Doha prepares for hosting the East Asian matches of the Champions League starting in mid-November, AFC stressed that Qatar has all the requirements to host the edition. The West Asian matches were successfully completed in four stadiums across Doha from September 14 to October 3, 2020, with the strict health measures in place.



Qatar Wins Bronze Medal in Korea International Youth Olympiad

The State of Qatar has claimed the bronze medal in the 5th edition of the Korea International Youth Olympiad (KIYO) 2020, which was held remotely by the World Women Inventors and Entrepreneurs Association (WWIEA) to raise awareness about innovation. The competition took place from Sept. 20 to Oct. 12 with the participation of around 60 countries from all over the world.


Labour Re-employment Platform Updated

Qatar Chamber (QC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) have successfully completed the development and improvement of the 'Labour Re-employment Platform', an initiative that was launched by QC in cooperation with the Ministry last July.


Qatar Ranks First Worldwide on DARE Index 2020

Qatar has ranked first worldwide on the Digital Accessibility Rights Evaluation Index 2020 (DARE Index 2020) released by the Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies (G3ict). DARE Indexis a benchmarking tool for disability advocates, governments, civil society, international organizations and policymakers to trace country progress in making Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) accessible for all, in compliance with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).



QU Awarded EU Funding to Teach EU Law

The Center for Law and Development (CLD) at the College of Law (LAWC), Qatar University (QU) has been awarded the European Union (EU) Jean Monnet Module funding to deliver courses on EU law to students and professionals in the State of Qatar. The "Doha Courses on European Union Law" will be the first Jean Monnet Module in Qatar and the GCC, and the courses will be delivered each year for 3 years. In a funding competition, the CLD won a competitive grant and was one of 360 awarded applications out of the 1447 eligible applications for funding in 2020.


Speaker of Shura Council and IPU President Launch Book Marking Union's 130th Anniversary

HE Speaker of the Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud and HE President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Gabriela Cuevas Barron launched Monday the book marking the 130th anniversary of the IPU. HE the Speaker of the Shura Council gave a speech to mark the occasion and said that the IPU, since its establishment in 1889, has become an important and effective organization. His Excellency noted that the IPU 140th General Assembly that took place successfully in Qatar in April 2019 reflects the appreciation of leading parliamentarians for the State of Qatar under the wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.


Al Rayyan Stadium Achieves Prestigious Sustainability Ratings

Al Rayyan Stadium has been highly commended for its sustainability features by the Gulf Organization for Research & Development (GORD). The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament venue achieved excellent sustainability ratings for its design, construction, management, and energy efficiency in line with the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS). The following certificates were awarded after the stadium's final audit: GSAS Design & Build Certification (four-star rating), GSAS Construction Management Certification (Class A*), and GSAS Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) Compliance Certificate.
