The State of Qatar took part in the first session of the Preparatory Committee for the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) on Monday. The delegation of the State of Qatar was chaired by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.

Qatar First Bank (QFB) has announced the acquisition of phase 1 of CoverMyMeds Campus Headquarters in Columbus, Ohio in the USA. The new acquisition marks QFB's 7th sharia compliant real estate investment in the Unites States and comes as a significant addition to the Bank's presence in the US real estate market following QFB's latest acquisitions of 90 North Campus (T-Mobile) building in Washington, BSN Sports HQ building (Varsity Brands) in Texas, The Grand 2 at Papago Park Center in Arizona, and Waterway Plaza I in Texas.

In its editorial on Sunday, The Peninsula English newspaper said that Qatar's labour reforms, which are meant to protect and promote migrant workers rights, have won global appreciation.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said that workers and human rights are a priority for FIFA and Qatar as well, adding that the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup will be an ideal version of the World Cup. Speaking at the 71st FIFA Congress, which was held via videoconferencing, Infantino stated that the Qatar 2022 World Cup will not only be the most important and greatest tournament ever, but it will leave a great social impact and a great legacy in the country and the region as a whole. He stressed the importance of this championship, especially in light of the ongoing challenges facing the world due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Peninsula newspaper praised in it's editorial on Thursday the strength and resilience of the Qatari economy, pointing out that Qatar has maintained trade surplus in the past several months, helped by the rise in exports.

The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC), is participating in the activities of the final week of the Virtual World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum, which is held on May 17 to 21.

Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA) announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art production facility in Umm Alhoul Free Zone, built by a partnership between iLife Digital, leading intelligent robotics, and electronics company based in Florida, US, and Prime Technologies, a subsidiary of Ali Bin Ali Holding. iLife and Prime Technologies will use the 2,500 sqm factory to create innovative iLife-branded electronic devices, including laptops, PCs, smartwatches, and mobile phones, among others. The new space will help meet the growing demand for affordable electronic projects in the MENA region and is the latest of many partnerships QFZs have orchestrated with the private sector.

During the meeting of the executive committee of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) which was held via video conference, the State of Qatar has reviewed its latest preparations for hosting the International Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha.

Qatari newspapers highlighted Sunday the world's celebration of the International Workers' Day, which falls on May 1 of each year, stressing that the State of Qatar has consistently participated in this annual celebration in recognition of the workers, the partners of the comprehensive development renaissance by promoting and protecting their rights and providing a safe and healthy work environment.

Al Raya newspaper highlighted, in its editorial today, that the State of Qatar has made great strides towards the transition to clean energy, as part of its National Vision 2030.The newspaper pointed out that Qatar pays great attention to sustainability and has made it the slogan of the next stage within its renaissance programs, as sustainability has entered into the development process in the State of Qatar, and it has even worked on launching international initiatives to save the planet and combat climate change, by shifting towards clean energy.
